50 years ago, in 1966, two remarkable events took place at the Polytechnic Institute of Timisoara, leading to the establishment of the first Romanian Computing school, in Timisoara:

  1. The first generation of engineers specialized in electronic computers in Romania, graduate in 1966 the Electro-mechanics program at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
  2. In 1966, the Romanian Ministry of Education approves the establishment of the first specialization in Electronic Computers in Romania, at the Polytechnic Institute of Timisoara, which starts with a number of 20 students. This number is raised to 50 students, the next year.

The 50 Years Anniversary celebration of the of the First Romanian Computing School, at the Politehnica Timisoara, takes place on Friday, October 21, in the D01 "Alexandru Rogojan" Amphitheater, Faculty of Automation and Computers, 2 V. Parvan Blvd., Timisoara.
